Every package lets you choose a shade, measured as VLT, or Visible Light Transmission: the share of visible light the film lets through. 70% is very light, 5% is limousine dark. The strip above shows the five shades side by side.

The rule is set by the state, so it applies here exactly as it does everywhere else in California. Front side windows must let at least 70% of visible light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any shade you like.

Is a 35% tint legal in California?

On the back, yes. A 35% film is legal on the rear side windows and rear windshield and is a popular privacy choice. It is not legal on the front two side windows, which are held to 70%. An installer willing to put 35% up front is quoting you a fix-it ticket.

On a car worth protecting, the more useful point is that darkness and performance are separate things. A 70% Apex Ultra ceramic film rejects far more heat than a dark carbon film, because the work is done by ceramic particles rather than by shade. You can keep the glass looking close to factory and still cut most of the heat.

We will go through the combination with you before anything is fitted, so the car is road-legal and looks the way you want it to.

We come to you. Film wants a clean, covered space, and a home garage is the best working environment there is: no wind, no dust, controlled light. If you have more than one car to do, we can usually take them in sequence on the same visit rather than booking separate days.

The C2 Carbon film is the one exception, being in-shop only both as the Bronze full-car tier and as the front-window option. That is done at our San Marcos shop, roughly half an hour away, and it is the reason Bronze is priced below the ceramic tiers.

What the appointment looks like

We are out seven days a week, 7am to 7pm, covering the Covenant, the village around Paseo Delicias and the surrounding lanes. If your property is gated or the access is not obvious from the road, tell us when you book. Your technician texts on the way and again when the car is finished.

A full-car tint is normally a half-day job. We need the car for the whole appointment and enough room around it to open every door, which a two-car garage comfortably gives.

After we leave

Keep the windows up for three days while the film cures. Haze, small bubbles or trapped moisture straight after an install is normal and clears on its own, usually within one to two weeks. A car kept garaged out of the damp tends to be at the quicker end. We explain the whole thing before we leave.
