Choosing your shade, and what is legal in California
Every package lets you pick a shade, measured as VLT, or Visible Light Transmission. That is the share of visible light the film lets through, so 70% is very light and 5% is limousine dark. The strip above shows the five shades side by side.
California sets this rule statewide, so it applies in San Marcos the same as anywhere else. Front side windows must let at least 70% of visible light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any shade you like.
Is a 35% tint legal in California?
On the back, yes. A 35% film is legal on rear side windows and the rear windshield and is a popular privacy choice. It is not legal on the front two side windows, which are held to 70%. Anyone offering 35% up front is quoting you a fix-it ticket.
The point people miss is that darker is not cooler. A 70% Apex Ultra ceramic film rejects far more heat than a dark carbon film, because the heat rejection comes from ceramic particles in the film rather than from how dark it looks. If a hot cabin is the problem and privacy is not, spend on the film and keep the front light.

Why we fit GeoShield film
We are a GeoShield dealer and fit their film exclusively across all three tiers. The ceramic films block heat with nano-ceramic particles rather than a metal layer, so they reject a lot of infrared without interfering with phone signal, GPS or tyre-pressure sensors the way older metallised films could.
The surface resists scratching, the colour holds instead of turning purple after a few summers, and both ceramic tiers carry a lifetime film warranty against bubbling, peeling, cracking and colour change. Cheap film is cheap because it does none of that.
Inland, UV is what finishes off a bad film. A car parked at Cal State San Marcos through a summer term, or sitting on a driveway up in San Elijo Hills, takes hours of hard direct sun a day. Colour stability under that kind of exposure is the practical reason we stopped fitting anything else.

How mobile window tinting works in San Marcos
Everywhere else we cover, mobile is the only option for the ceramic tiers and the shop is a drive. Here you can pick either. We will come to your home, your workplace or your garage, or you can leave the car with us at the shop and get on with your day.
If we come to you, film wants a clean, covered space, so a garage or carport gives the best result. Wind is the enemy rather than heat, and San Marcos gets less of it than the coast does, which makes driveway installs more predictable here than they are a few miles west.
What the appointment looks like
We are out seven days a week, 7am to 7pm, covering all of San Marcos: the Restaurant Row stretch along San Marcos Boulevard, the university area, Twin Oaks Valley and up into San Elijo Hills. Your technician texts on the way and again when the car is finished.
A full-car tint is normally a half-day job. We need the car for the whole appointment and enough room to open all the doors, whichever way you choose to have it done.
After we leave
Keep the windows up for three days while the film cures. Haze, small bubbles or trapped moisture straight after an install is normal and clears on its own, usually within one to two weeks. Warmer, drier inland air tends to speed that up compared with the coast. If anything still looks wrong after that, we are ten minutes away.

Can I add ceramic coating, PPF or detailing?
A ceramic coating does for your paint what ceramic film does for your glass: it rejects UV, sheds water and keeps the finish from dulling. We are an authorized Opti-Coat installer, with tiers from $599. See the tiers and pricing.

Is your shop in San Marcos?
Yes. It is where the C2 Carbon film has to be fitted, since carbon is an indoor-only install, and it is where customers from the rest of the county drive to for the Bronze tier.

What tint is legal in California?
Front side windows must let at least 70% of visible light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any shade you want.
We will walk you through a combination that stays legal, and a 70% ceramic film at the front still rejects a lot of heat.
Is a 35% tint legal in California?
On the rear side windows and rear windshield, yes. On the front two side windows, no. Those are held to 70% VLT, so a 35% film up front is not road-legal in California.
Can you tint at my house in San Marcos?
Yes. Both ceramic tiers, the ceramic front-window option and the windshield film can all be fitted at your address. A garage or carport is ideal because film wants a clean, covered space.
Only the C2 Carbon film has to be done indoors at the shop, which from a San Marcos address is a short trip rather than a journey.
Can you remove my old tint first?
Yes. Tint removal is $90 per hour and covers stripping the existing film off the vehicle before the new film goes on. How long it takes depends on the film and how long it has been on the car.
Film that has gone purple or begun to bubble takes longest. We will give you a realistic estimate once we have seen it.
How long before I can roll my windows down?
Three days. The film needs that time to adhere fully, and rolling a window down early can damage it.
Why does my tint look hazy or bubbled?
That is trapped moisture and it is normal straight after an install. It clears as the film cures, usually within one to two weeks here, since inland air is drier and warmer than on the coast.
Does ceramic tint really block more heat?
Yes, and measurably so. C2 Carbon rejects about 50% of heat, Pro Nano Ceramic about 76%, and Apex Ultra Ceramic about 95%. All three block 99% of UV.
If a hot parked car is the thing you want to fix, that difference is what you are paying for, and it matters more than how dark the film looks.
Is the tint covered by a warranty?
The Silver and Gold ceramic packages carry a lifetime warranty on the film, as do the ceramic front-window and windshield options. The Bronze Carbon option carries a 3-year film warranty.
The warranty covers the film against bubbling, peeling, cracking and colour change.
