Every package lets you choose a shade, measured as VLT, or Visible Light Transmission: the share of visible light the film lets through. 70% is very light and 5% is limousine dark. The strip above shows the five shades side by side.

This is a state rule rather than a community one, so it is the same here as anywhere else in California. Front side windows must let at least 70% of visible light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any shade you like.

Is a 35% tint legal in California?

On the back, yes. A 35% film is legal on rear side windows and the rear windshield and is a common privacy choice. It is not legal on the front two side windows, which are held to 70%. Anyone offering to fit 35% up front is quoting you a fix-it ticket.

The useful distinction on a car you care about is that shade and performance are not the same thing. A 70% Apex Ultra ceramic film rejects far more heat than a dark carbon film, because the ceramic particles do the work rather than the darkness. You can keep the glass looking near-factory and still take most of the heat out.

We will settle the combination with you before anything goes on, so the car is legal and looks how you want.

We come to you. Film wants a clean, covered space, and a home garage is the best working environment we get: no wind, no airborne dust and no direct sun on the glass while we work. If there is more than one car to do, we can normally take them in sequence on the same visit.

The exception is the C2 Carbon film, which is in-shop only, both as the Bronze full-car tier and as the front-window option, because carbon has to be fitted indoors. That is done at our San Marcos shop, and it is why Bronze costs less than the ceramic tiers.

What the appointment looks like

We are out seven days a week, 7am to 7pm. Because the community is gated, let us know at booking how you want us cleared at the gate, whether that is you calling ahead or leaving our details with the guard. Your technician texts on the way and again when the car is finished.

A full-car tint is normally a half-day job. We need the car for the whole appointment and enough room around it to open every door, which a garage bay gives comfortably.

After we leave

Keep the windows up for three days while the film cures. Some haze, small bubbles or trapped moisture straight after an install is normal and clears on its own, usually within one to two weeks. A garaged car, out of the damp, tends to be at the quicker end of that.
