Mobile Window Tinting in El Cajon

Every package lets you choose a shade, measured as VLT, or Visible Light Transmission: the share of visible light the film lets through. 70% is very light, 5% is limousine dark. The strip above shows the five shades side by side.

The rule is set by the state, not the city, so El Cajon is treated the same as everywhere else in California. Front side windows must let at least 70% of visible light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any shade you like.

Is a 35% tint legal in California?

On the back, yes. A 35% film is legal on the rear side windows and rear windshield and is a popular privacy choice. It is not legal on the front two side windows, which are held to 70%. Anyone offering to fit 35% up front is quoting you a fix-it ticket.

In heat like this the temptation is to go as dark as the law allows and hope for the best. It is the wrong lever. A 70% Apex Ultra ceramic film rejects far more heat than a dark carbon film, because the ceramic particles do the work rather than the shade. If you want a cooler car in an East County summer, buy the film, not the darkness.

We come to you: home, yard, or workplace. Film wants a clean, covered space, so a garage or carport gives the best result, and shade helps us as much as it helps you on a hot afternoon. Wind is less of a problem here than on the coast, so an open driveway is usually workable, but a covered spot is always better.

The C2 Carbon film is the exception, being in-shop only both as the Bronze full-car tier and as the front-window option, because carbon has to be fitted indoors. That work is done at our San Marcos shop, which is a real drive from El Cajon. Most customers out here take one of the ceramic tiers we can bring to them instead, and that is usually the better choice for the heat anyway.

What the appointment looks like

We are out seven days a week, 7am to 7pm, and we cover El Cajon from the Main Street area out through the surrounding neighbourhoods and the streets off the 8 and the 67. Your technician texts on the way and again when the vehicle is finished.

A full-car tint is normally a half-day job. We need the vehicle for the whole appointment and enough room around it to open every door. In midsummer, an early slot is more comfortable for everyone.

After we leave

Keep the windows up for three days while the film cures. Haze, small bubbles or trapped moisture straight after an install is normal and clears on its own. In this heat it usually goes inside one to two weeks, faster than the same job would clear at the coast.
