Ceramic coating in Leucadia

Eucalyptus drip is resin, not dirt. On bare clear coat it bonds, and if it is left through a hot spell it etches a mark that only polishing will remove. A ceramic coating gives it a surface it cannot key into, so what would have been a careful removal becomes a rinse, and the same layer takes the salt haze and the UV that a permanently outdoor car collects.

We are an authorized Opti-Coat installer and we fit coatings across Leucadia, from the north end of Coast Highway 101 down towards the centre of Encinitas. Tiers run from one year up to five with Opti-Coat Pro.

Living under the eucalyptus

Street-parked cars here take a constant drip of eucalyptus debris and a salt haze off the water, and the top surfaces get all of it: the roof, the bonnet, the boot lid and the upper edge of the glass.

Sap is the reason a coating is worth more in Leucadia than in most coastal neighbourhoods. Uncoated, every drip is a small race against the sun before it etches. Coated, it sits on the surface and comes off with water and time. It is not a licence to ignore it — leave a sap spot on anything long enough and it will mark — but it turns an urgent job into a routine one.

Salt does the slower damage, bonding to the paint and gradually flattening the finish. That also lands on the coating rather than the clear coat.

The one thing to keep doing is avoiding a dry wipe. Sand and grit on a cloth scratch a coated car just as they scratch an uncoated one.

Where the car needs to be for the appointment

This is the practical difficulty here, and it is worth solving before booking rather than on the day. Plenty of Leucadia homes are old bungalows and apartments with nothing but kerbside parking, and a coating has to cure in a clean, covered space.

Wind is the other reason. A few hundred metres from the water, an exposed spot means panels drying unevenly and grit landing on a surface that has to stay perfectly clean. A garage or a carport solves both problems outright; a sheltered driveway can work in still conditions.
