Mobile Window Tinting in Cardiff

Each package lets you choose a shade, measured as VLT, or Visible Light Transmission: the share of visible light the film lets through. 70% is very light and 5% is limousine dark. The strip above puts the five shades side by side.

This is a state rule, not a local one, so Cardiff is no different from anywhere else in California. Front side windows must let at least 70% of visible light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any shade you like.

Is a 35% tint legal in California?

On the back, yes. A 35% film is legal on the rear side windows and rear windshield, and a lot of people choose it for privacy. It is not legal on the front two side windows, which are held to 70%. An installer offering 35% up front is quoting you a fix-it ticket.

The confusing part is that darker does not mean cooler. A 70% Apex Ultra ceramic film rejects far more heat than a dark carbon film, because the heat rejection comes from the ceramic particles in the film and not from how dark it appears. If a hot cabin is the problem rather than privacy, put the money into the film and keep the front light.

We will work the combination out with you before anything goes on, so the car is road-legal and still does what you wanted.

We come to you: your driveway, your workplace, or your garage. Film wants a clean, covered space, so a garage or carport gives the best result. Wind is the real problem rather than heat, and Cardiff has more of it than most places on this coast. On a blowy afternoon in the Composer District or down near San Elijo, a closed garage is worth far more than a sunny driveway.

The C2 Carbon film is the exception to all of this. It is in-shop only, both as the Bronze full-car tier and as the front-window option, because carbon has to be fitted indoors. That work happens at our San Marcos shop, roughly twenty-five minutes inland, and it is why Bronze costs less than the ceramic tiers.

What the appointment looks like

We are out seven days a week, 7am to 7pm, and we cover all of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, from the coast road and the seaside lots up through the Composer District and along Birmingham Drive. Your technician texts on the way and again when the car is done, so you are not stuck waiting for a window that never opens.

A full-car tint is usually a half-day job. We need the car for the whole appointment and enough space around it to open every door.

After we leave

Windows stay up for three days while the film cures. Haze, small bubbles or trapped moisture straight afterwards is normal and clears by itself, generally in one to two weeks in summer. Sitting under the marine layer through winter it can take three to four weeks, which is slower than people expect but is not a fault. We go through all of it with you before we leave.
