Ceramic coating in Torrey Pines

That is a coastal problem with an inland intensity: salt bonding to the paint, and UV arriving from two directions at once. A ceramic coating handles both — salt gets nothing to key into and rinses away, and the UV lands on a layer designed to take it rather than on the clear coat.

Sun from two directions

Reflected light off the water is the part of this location people underestimate. On a clear afternoon a car on the bluffs is taking UV from overhead and from the sea at the same time, and that is a harder combination than either alone.

The effect on paint is straightforward oxidation, just faster than the same car would see inland. The effect on trim is chalking, and on headlights it is hazing. A coating takes the paint side of that; the trim and lenses are dealt with in the preparation stage and then maintained.

Combined with salt in the air, the preparation before coating is longer here than average — bonded salt has to come off completely, because a coating over it traps it against the paint for years.
