Applying a coating in a parking structure

A structure is genuinely one of the better places to do this work: no wind, no sun on the panels, and nothing landing on a surface that has to stay perfectly clean while it cures. Most of our downtown coatings happen in one.

What we need is a bay with room to open the doors and get around the car, and whatever permission the building requires. We arrive with our own water and power, which is usually what settles the conversation with building management, since it means no hose, no outlet and nothing for facilities to arrange.

Allow a proper slot. The decontamination and correction stage is most of the job, and on a car that has been sitting in a structure collecting brake dust for a year or two, that stage takes longer than the coating itself.

The car that mostly sits

Plenty of downtown cars do very little mileage: they sit for days, then do a short dense run through the Gaslamp or out onto the 5. That pattern produces two specific problems a coating helps with.

Bonded brake dust. On a car that is rarely washed, brake dust has time to etch into an alloy wheel finish. Wheels can be coated too, and on a car like this it is one of the more worthwhile parts of the job.

Standing grime. Anything that lands on a car that does not move — construction dust, drips from the level above, bird mess — has time to bond and, in the case of bird mess, time to etch. A coated surface buys you the time to get to it.
