Mobile Window Tinting in Coronado

Every package lets you choose a shade, measured as VLT, or Visible Light Transmission: the share of visible light the film lets through. 70% is very light, 5% is limousine dark. The strip above shows the five shades side by side.

The rule is set by the state, so Coronado is treated the same as everywhere else in California. Front side windows must let at least 70% of visible light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any shade you like.

Is a 35% tint legal in California?

On the back, yes. A 35% film is legal on the rear side windows and rear windshield and is a common privacy choice. It is not legal on the front two side windows, which are held to 70%. Anyone offering to fit 35% up front is quoting you a fix-it ticket.

Glare here comes from below as much as from above, because light reflects off the water from both sides of the island. Shade helps with that, but heat is a separate matter: a 70% Apex Ultra ceramic film rejects far more heat than a dark carbon film, because the ceramic particles do the work rather than the darkness.

We come to you, over the bridge, to your home or garage. Film wants a clean, covered space, and on the island that matters more than usual: the wind comes off the water from more than one direction and it carries salt and fine sand with it. If you have a garage, even a small one behind the house off the alley, that is where we would rather work.

Parking is the other thing to think about. Older homes here often have a detached alley garage rather than a driveway, which is usually ideal, but we need enough room around the car to open all the doors. Tell us what you have when you book.

The C2 Carbon film is in-shop only, both as the Bronze full-car tier and as the front-window option, and is fitted at our San Marcos shop. From Coronado that is a long round trip, so nearly everyone here takes one of the ceramic tiers we bring to the island.

What the appointment looks like

We are out seven days a week, 7am to 7pm, covering Coronado from the village around Orange Avenue down the Strand. Your technician texts on the way and again when the car is finished, which is worth having when bridge traffic is involved.

After we leave

Keep the windows up for three days while the film cures. Haze, small bubbles or trapped moisture is normal at first and clears on its own, usually in one to two weeks in summer. In damp winter air on the island it can take three to four weeks, which is slower than expected but not a fault.
