Ceramic coating in Rancho Bernardo

Both are things a ceramic coating handles. It absorbs the UV that would otherwise be oxidising the clear coat through every hour the car is parked, and it stops the road film picked up on the 15 bonding to the paint — so the car rinses clean instead of needing scrubbing. On a car that only gets attention at weekends, that is what keeps it looking right.

Inland of the fog line

The distinction that matters here is simple: RB gets the sun that the coast does not. The marine layer that keeps a Carlsbad car cool through a summer morning does not reach this far inland, so the paint is working for more hours of more days of the year.

That has two consequences for a coating. It is worth more here than it would be at the coast, because there is more UV for it to absorb. And the preparation is usually bigger, because a car that has done several RB summers uncovered often has some oxidation in the clear coat that has to be polished out before anything is sealed over it.

One local check before booking: if the paint feels gritty rather than dirty, that is usually overspray rather than road film, and it needs overspray removal first. Coating over embedded overspray makes it permanent.

Fitting it around the commute

A coating needs the car for longer than a detail does, and it needs a clean, covered space to cure in, so a garage at home is usually the easiest venue — ideally on a day the car is not needed.

If the car is easier to reach at the office, a covered structure space works just as well. What does not work is an uncovered business-park lot on a hot afternoon, where the coating flashes off before it can be levelled properly and there is nothing to stop grit landing on it.
